Songs which express an emotional response to God in worship are often viewed with disdain as ‘Jesus is my boyfriend’ songs. Yet emotion is a vital part of who we are, and should, in some form, be part of our worship.

But how can this be done well, without making unrealistic assumptions about knowledge of God? And what precedents are there in Scripture and theology which might guide us?
