There are serious contradictions in the legal and moral status of the foetus in recent thinking, and both affective responses to foetal death, as well as technical advances, demand new thinking in this area.

This detailed study looks at both the biological and the ethical issues at stake to argue that we should assign moral status to the foetus at a much earlier point of development.
